Shelby Park
★ 4.6
Shelby Park, also known as Shelby Bottoms, is Nashville’s 3rd largest park and a spot that’s a big part of East Nashville and its history. This large, urban park is about 3 miles from downtown and runs along the Cumberland River. Once an amusement park in the late 1800’s, the park went through many ups and downs to become what it is today. It was handed around multiple owners until it was purchased and opened to the public in the summer of 1912. Throughout its 100 years, government leaders and community leaders worked tirelessly to achieve the beauty that the park is now. This park consists of 2 golf courses, one of them being the first golf course in Nashville, playgrounds, a variety of natural and manmade resources such as streams, environmental preserves, and multi-use paths and primitive trails. It’s the perfect place to see how beautiful Tennessee is, even in an urban area.

We can’t really talk about Nashville neighborhoods without talking about fried chicken. Coneheads is everything you love about food and the creativity behind your favorite dishes like the classic chicken and waffles. At Coneheads, you get ice cream parlor style vibes with chicken in a waffle cone instead of ice cream. Nothing compliments chicken quite like homemade sauces like chipotle ranch, white BBQ, hot jam sauce, rosemary agave and more. Side items provide the comfort you love in mac and cheese, pineapple coleslaw, grits so good they’re named “best damn grits, fried cauliflower and fries. Not only is the food a show stopper, they’re inexpensive and a place for the whole family. Check out some other cheap eateries in East Nash.
